Gary is a year older than I am. I stopped taking LSD in 1973. I stopped smoking pot in 1980. I grew up, got married, became a parent, had a successful career and just retired. Gary looks, talks, and acts like I did in 1980. Glad I grew up. I would not want Gary teaching my children about drugs or religion.

The problem isn't with tenure so much as it is with the power given to tenured professors at a teaching level. If they want to do their own research or whatever, then fine, but if teaching, they should meet the same performance benchmarks as anyone. The other problem is that the ones who get promoted to tenure are only the most career ambitious, not necessarily the most proficient.

Every Professor I’ve had at uni I disliked. Literally not one I found to be a good person.

Tenure allows these professors to fully indulge with the "Inner Commie" that resides within so many of them, and do so without fear of reprisal, But it does not protect Conservatives from the Progressive / PC/ SJW / Cancel Culture Mob. Tenure sucks. Teachers should be performance based pay. Better teachers should warrant better pay, and crappy teachers should be fired. Cream rises to the top.

Tenure is the single worst thing for medical research in academia right now. Promotes complacency with professors who are no longer required to publish. Tenured emeritus professors are also a huge part of the cost overhead at universities that’s raising tuition costs to the point where this generations student debt will bankrupt them.

I was ASTONISHED as a young man to see how badly college professors could act towards their students, tenured or not. I mean, we're paying them a fortune, and for what?!? I had one math professor that just stopped showing up after a few classes, and the university just passed everyone and looked the other way.

As a college teacher myself, the profession can be insanely political and petty. Tenure *can be* a good thing to guard against some messed up shenanigans and power trips. Not always a great thing. But often, yes.

I feel like for academics, getting tenure is like having “senioritus.” You know what I mean? How when you’re within months of finishing high school or even college you just kind of check out because it’ll be done soon? I feel like academics feel that way once they get tenure. They don’t have to work hard anymore.

It’s hit or miss with the tenured professors that I’ve dealt with. Some have been some of the greatest professors I’ve ever come across and I can tell they honestly care. The other half are some of the biggest pieces of shit, and I’m positive they hide behind their tenure and the ability to be untouched. It is what it is. Just do your research before picking your professors.

Most professors I knew used their tenure to dive deeper into their research and give minimal effort into teaching. I had a great physics professors who used his tenure to research less and focus on being the most effective teacher. He was fantastic and may have been the best professor I had.
